this seems to be a comman fault with mazda in that model and i still have not found a cure. unplugging the alternator proves that it runs properly as it doesnt squeel or build up heat while running but squeels and break when plugged in. there is no tensioner pulley and only runs between crank, waterpump and alternator. the belts align up perfectly and just replaced bearings in the alternator and still seems to build up heat and eat the belts away. 1.6i dohcĪnd seem to have the same problem. apparently controlled by the computer box?.can some one of experience please help an not some idiot blaming the "ghost" tensioners!!! hi i have a mazda etude/protege 2000. this therefor is something to do with regulating the power charge to battery an not switching off charge when battery is full. i suspect it to do with the regulator trying to over charge the battery and thus building up heat an tension on the belt tryin to slow the motor down while idling but when the battery is low, is doesnt cause a prolem till the battery reaches its full charge.
